Equity Matters

Students of color and those with disabilities are often suspended or kicked out of school because of unfair and strict rules. This causes more of them to drop out and get involved with the law. This leads to stress, mental health issues, and thoughts of suicide. It also raises the risk of getting diseases like HIV, Hepatitis C,and tuberculosis. [,] Black students especially face a big problem known as the “”school-to-prison pipeline.”” This means they are unfairly pushed from school into the criminal justice system because they are more likely to be suspended, expelled, or arrested.[]
