Understanding the Data
School districts report up to five languages spoken by English Learner (EL) students to the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore, the language data shown here represent the most commonly reported EL languages within a district rather than all languages spoken by EL students. These data are useful for identifying major language groups and geographic patterns but should not be interpreted as a complete count of languages spoken by EL students.
A small number of districts report English as a language spoken by EL students. To improve comparability across districts and focus on non-English language groups, English has been excluded from the language results presented here.
