Language Matters
Language that doesn’t specify gender is important to use when discussing violence because domestic violence can happen to anyone. However, we do use specific gender terms when talking about certain situations. The movement to help battered women was started by women for women.[] Recognizing other groups and situations doesn’t lessen the challenges that women face.
