Workplaces can also be a setting for violence. Potential types of violence include:

  • Collective violence (the harmful act of groups who create policies or conditions to harm other groups)
  • Forced labor
  • Workers may become aggressive due to job stress, lack of social support, or lack of rewards for work. This aggression can be physical or verbal.
  • Physical or verbal aggression by shoppers, clients, or patients. This is sometimes due to high job demands, long waits, poor safety climates, poor worker-client relationships).[]
  • Sexual assault and harassment []
  • Workplace suicide[]
  • Microaggressions based on racialized or other identities
